The successful candidate has a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, and has demonstrated experience in biomedical, genomics, or systems biology research projects involving high-throughput molecular data sets. He or she is familiar with high-dimensional genomic data and its processing as well as preparation for subsequent analysis. Additionally, he or she has an innate knowledge of modern analysis methods for next-generation sequencing data, such as WGS, WES, targeted deep sequencing, RNA-seq, and GWAS. Strong programming skills and solid knowledge of R and Python are requirements. Experience in front-end development such as Java and Shiny is a plus, as well as in HPC, bioinformatics software development, personalized medicine, clinical consulting or interdisciplinary research. The position is initially a one-year limited-duration contract position with the possibility of extension to a permanent contract.

Job Description:

The Technology Platform NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies of ETH Zurich, Switzerland, enables, in collaboration with leading medical institutions, discovery, translational research, and therapy-relevant decisions in biomedicine. In its Clinical Bioinformatics Unit (CBU), it provides genomic and statistical data analysis service and consulting, from sequence to publication-ready results. The CBU is recruiting per October 1, 2015, or by mutual agreement, a Bioinformatician (100%) The Bioinformatician of CBU will be responsible for the analysis of biomedical data from our customers on a fee-for-service basis. The successful candidate will closely work with different groups from the clinical and academic domain to provide optimal conditions for cutting-edge data analysis within the highly interdisciplinary domain of personalized medicine. Furthermore, he or she will be involved in implementing, testing, and integrating genomic pipelines to provide molecular reporting to medical doctors in the clinics, while constantly ensuring state-of-the-art quality control at the level required for medical data analysis. Both of these tasks will require tight interactions with our statisticians and IT service providers at the respective institutions.
