Lattanzi Riccardo - Director of the Center for Biomedical Imaging

Lattanzi Riccardo

NYU Langone Health
Radiology
New York, United States of America

Riccardo Lattanzi is a Professor of Radiology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering at the New York University (NYU), where he is the Director of the Center for Biomedical Imaging. He also serves as the Director of training for the Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research (CAI2R) and as the Director of the PhD program in Biomedical Imaging and Technology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. His research work lies at the boundary between physics, engineering and medicine. He investigates fundamental principles involving the interactions of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields with biological tissue in order to develop new techniques and technologies that are aimed at improving magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.

A research area of interest of Dr. Lattanzi is the development of novel MR-based quantitative biomarkers for the assessment of articular cartilage, which could be clinically translated for early diagnosis of osteoarthritis, monitoring disease progression and evaluating treatment response. MR-based quantitative biomarkers specific to cartilage constituents could also enable phenotyping osteoarthritis for personalized treatment and staging osteoarthritis for improved clinical management.

Dr. Lattanzi was a recipient of several awards, including a Fulbright scholarship, the ISMRM Rabi Young Investigator Award and an NSF CAREER Award. He was selected as an Aspen Junior Fellow by the Aspen Institute Italia, a Young Leader by the Council for the United States and Italy, and a European Young Leader. Dr. Lattanzi received his laurea degree in electronic engineering from the University of Bologna, his Master of Science in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT, and his Ph.D. in medical and electrical engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.
