Prof. Dr Tobias Winkler is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC), the Berlin Institute of Health Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) and the Julius Wolff Institute (JWI) of the Charité in Berlin, Germany, where he holds a Professorship for Regenerative Orthopedics and Traumatology. Tobias is the coordinator of an international EU Horizon 2020-supported research consortium performing the worldwide-only phase III trial of allogeneic cell therapy for regeneration after skeletal muscle injury. Furthermore, he is the coordinator of the EU Horizon Europe-funded PROTO consortium developing a cell therapy and biomechanical intervention for osteoarthritis. He is head of a research team, which main focus is the translation of advanced therapies for musculoskeletal indications. His research work in the field encompasses cell therapies with adult mesenchymal and blood cells for bone, tendon and muscle regeneration and regenerative therapeutic approaches towards osteoarthritis.

In 2021, Tobias founded the Advanced Therapies in Orthopaedics Foundation, which he is co-heading with Michiel Broker, and which connects international key opinion leaders from research, clinics, corporate, finance and regulatory with the aim to accelerate development for advanced diagnostics and therapies for musculoskeletal indications.
