Laura Creemers, PhD, University Medical Centre Utrecht, The Netherlands
Laura Creemers is an associate professor at the department of Orthopaedics at the UMC Utrecht. As a cell biologist with a PhD in dentistry on fundamental aspects of connective tissue turnover, she moved via stem cell research and a biotech industry position to musculoskeletal tissue engineering. First encompassing bone, ligament and cartilage, her current interest is in intervertebral disc and cartilage disease, ranging from cell-based to clinical research, with a focus on biomaterial-based regeneration, including local delivery, and the role of inflammation in repair. She has participated in many public-private-partnerships, some of which as PI, authored 74 peer-reviewed publications and has been board member of the Dutch Society for Biomaterials and Tissue engineering and the Dutch Society for Matrix Biology (secretary). As PhD student, she has received several presentation awards at international conferences and was copromotor of two theses awarded as the best orthopaedic thesis by the Dutch society of Orthopaedics.
