Lucienne Vonk, PhD, is Director Musculoskeletal diseases at Xintela AB (Lund, Sweden) and holds a guest senior researcher appointment at the Department of Orthopaedics, University Medical Center Utrecht. She obtained her PhD at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam, VU University Amsterdam, on the use of chondrocytes and chondrons from various cartilaginous tissues for tissue engineering. In 2010, she joined the department of Orthopaedics at the UMC Utrecht as postdoctoral researcher and headed the scientific department at CO.DON AG (Teltow, Germany) 2019 – 2022. Her research focuses on cell-based therapies for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed international journals and attracted over 3 million Euro in research funding. She received several awards, including the ICRS Young Investigator Award in 2016. Dr. Vonk was selected for the first ICRS scientist traveling fellowship in 2015, the Steyn Parvé program in The Netherlands to stimulate female leadership in science in 2018 and nominated as best graduate student supervisor of Utrecht University in 2019. In addition, she was the program co-chair for the ICRS world congress 2019 in Vancouver, Canada. She is also co-founder and co-chair of the German National ICRS cartilage club, was active in several committees of the ICRS and is currently deputy co-chair of the basic science – translational research committee of the ICRS. She is also senior & social media associate editor of the Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation.
