Shanmugasundaram Saseendar

Pondicherry, India

I am Dr. Saseendar Shanmugasundaram, an Arthroscopy Surgeon specializing in Knee and Shoulder arthroscopy and cartilage reconstruction. My training took place at renowned centers in Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom, where I developed expertise in cutting-edge procedures like Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) and Osteochondral Autograft Transplantation System (OATS). I also had the privilege of training with esteemed cartilage reconstruction surgeons in the UK.

My academic journey includes MBBS, MS Ortho, and DNB Ortho qualifications. Additionally, I hold a Diploma from SICOT in Belgium and fellowships in Arthroscopy and Sports Surgery in Singapore and with the International Society of Orthopaedic Centres (ISOC) in the US, Switzerland, and the UK. As part of my academic and professional achievements, I was awarded the Lester Lowe SICOT Award for my work in Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy at the 42nd SICOT Orthopaedic World Congress.

I currently serve as a Professor of Orthopaedics and Clinical Lead in the Division of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, India. My contributions to the scientific community extend to my roles on several Editorial Boards, including Deputy Editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma and Section Editor for the Indian Journal of Orthopaedics.

Throughout my career, I have published extensively in indexed international journals on topics related to arthroscopy, joint surgery, cartilage reconstruction, and trauma. My passion for research also led me to edit the upcoming book “Handbook of Orthopaedic Trauma Implantology.”

With memberships in various international and national orthopaedic societies, including APKASS, ISAKOS, ESSKA, and SICOT, I actively contribute to the orthopaedic community. My commitment to the field is further evident through my involvement in committees such as the Sports Traumatology & Arthroscopy Committee at SICOT and the Education Committee at SICOT in Belgium.

The privilege of being an esteemed member of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) drives me to continually advance the field of orthopaedics through my expertise, academic contributions, and dedication to innovative cartilage reconstruction and arthroscopy techniques.
