We, the leaders of the ICRS, have been following the tragic events leading up to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine over the last week. We are deeply concerned and disturbed by the aggression against a democratic country leading to significant loss of life, displacement of families and destruction.
The ICRS is an international not-for-profit society, thriving on and fostering education and academia through teaching and free intellectual exchange. Both of these are being threatened and we feel the need to support our friends and colleagues in the Ukraine and the western surrounding countries. Some of our members have contacts to physician in countries bordering Ukraine on the west and they report dire conditions for refugees, displaced and orphaned children as well as difficulties getting supplies and aid to those in need. Many of our members are looking for ways to aid our colleagues and friends. We strongly support and encourage our ICRS members to help if possible, support colleagues who are in a position to help directly and contribute to humanitarian help efforts in any way possible. The AAOS – American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has made available a link that allows to connect with several global help efforts to support refugees and those still living in war torn Ukraine. We keep our thoughts with our friends and colleagues in the Ukraine and neighbouring countries and will continue to update the ICRS membership with any specific avenues to support and assist humanitarian efforts in the region.
