Last week we sadly lost another leader from within our cartilage and joint regeneration community. Dr. Gerard Malanga passed away on 15/05/22 surrounded by his family.
Gerard Malanga has been an active ICRS member since 2014 and has attended several ICRS events. His passion was non-operative management of joint disease which he treated as a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. He was the President of the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation and as such, the most passionate and dedicated leader on behalf of his patients, particularly with regard to evidence based medicine.
Gerard was a pioneer who embraced orthobiologics and minimally invasive procedures in degenerative joint disease and other musculoskeletal conditions. He trained numerous residents and fellows who have become leaders in the field of orthobiologics themselves. He was nationally and internationally known for his work, but most importantly he was a leader and mentor to many, and a passionate advocate and healer to his patients. Dr. Malanga was a true leader. We will miss him and never forget his passion, rigor and depth of the lessons he taught us.
