Michael Iosifidis

Dr Michael Iosifidis is an Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon, practicing mostly in Arthroscopic Surgery, Joint Reconstruction, Sports Injuries and Biologic and Cell Therapies.
He served for over 20 years the National Health System of Greece and he is currently the Head of 3rd Orthopaedic Department of European Interbalkan Medical Center.
He founded and is the Chief Physician of the Orthobiology Surgery Center, in Thessaloniki, Greece.
He graduated the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Medicine where he carried out his Doctoral Thesis under the title: “Elite athletes sport activity as a predisposing factor for osteoarthritis”.
He attended several Knee, Shoulder and Upper Limb Fellowships, with the following most important:
• Clinical fellow in arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries treatment, and Paediatrics Orthopaedics at University of Pittsburgh, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Center of Sports Medicine (Prof. Freddie H. Fu M.D.) Pittsburgh PA, USA 2004 –2005
• Clinical fellow in arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries treatment, total knee and shoulder replacements, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City, USA 2007, 2008

He is an ESSKA Teacher and his department is an accredited Teaching Center for the following:
• European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA)
• International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS)
• International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society (ICRS)

Dr Iosifidis is author in 10 Book Chapters, over 400 studies in Congresses, 45 published studies and 52 proceedings in International Journals, speaker and instructor in over 370 round tables, lectures and hands-on workshops.
He is member of the Editorial Board of American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), and reviewer of several international scientific journals.
Dr Iosifidis is member of ESSKA’s Orthobiologic Initiative (ORBIT) Steering Group.
Finally, he is currently member of the Biologic Task Force and the Communication Committee of ISAKOS, member of the Education Committee of ICRS and faculty member of ACL module for ESSKA’s Certification Programme.
His research is focusing on MSCs use for cartilage lesions treatment (member of the Advisory Committee of Greek Hellenic Cord Blood Bank of Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens /BRFAA for regenerative medicine and cell therapies in musculoskeletal system), and knee joint kinetics and kinematics.
