ICRS Grants, Fellowships & Scholarships
The ICRS and its partners have joined forces by offering several Fellowship and scholarship Programmes to the ICRS members. Applications are open only to young ICRS Members who are in good standing. The programme represents a serious commitment from ICRS and its partners to support highly motivated trainees and residents with basic science knowledge and clinical research skills. Together, we build a strong network and push for innovation. We believe that research is the engine of development and that linking and educating passionate young professionals is the way to advance the field of orthoregeneration significantly. Applications should be submitted before the deadline for each programme. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Please find current opportunities below.

ICRS / Vericel – Lars Peterson Clinical Travelling Fellowship 2025 Apply until April 22, 2025
The program objectives are to provide early-career orthopedic surgeons, residents, fellows, or clinical scientists an international exchange opportunity in a stimulating environment and to gain exposure to translational science and clinical applications in studies involving articular cartilage injury, repair, regeneration, and joint preservation. Selected as potential leaders in cartilage regeneration and joint preservation, fellows will participate in scientific symposia with host physicians, visit facilities, view surgical procedures and participate in social and cultural events with the hosting cartilage regeneration and joint preservation community.
The 14-day tour is led by the distinguished and experienced godfather and former ICRS President Dr. Tom Minas (Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute, West Palm Beach). The Fellowship Program includes joint workshops and exchanges with the ON / ICRS Translational Orthoregeneration Research Fellows, who travel at the same time and whose program focuses on translational science. The Fellowship program concludes with attendance at the 18th ICRS World Congress in Boston/USA.
The ICRS will cover all costs for transportation and accommodation, as well as several dinners with the local hosts.

- List of publications on cartilage treatment and joint preservation of the last 5 years (from 2020) with titles and journal references
- Letter from the head of the department supporting your application
- Copy of passport
- Copy of graduation certification / specialist certification.
Failing to comply with the application indications will result in exclusion from the selection process.
Condition: The group will present a short travel report at the ICRS World Congress and produce a photo story of the trip. On tour, the group will also document the fellowship with photo posts on social media.
Eligibility criteria:
- Candidates are ICRS Members in good standing.
- Orthopaedic Surgery, Senior- or Chief Residents, Fellows, or young clinical Scientists up to 40 years and with a dedicated interest in cartilage regeneration and joint preservation.
- Candidates must not have benefited previously from ICRS-related international fellowships.
- Candidates must speak English fluently (the entire program is in English).

ON / ICRS Translational Orthoregeneration Research Fellowship 2025 Apply until April 22, 2025
The program objectives are to provide highly motivated young postdoctoral scientists (clinicians or researchers) and future leaders with exposure to high-quality translational research in laboratories world-famous for their work in orthopaedic tissue regeneration and joint preservation. The fellowship is an excellent opportunity to build a lasting international network in a stimulating environment. The program includes joint workshops and exchanges with the ICRS / Vericel Lars Peterson Clinical Travelling Fellowship fellows, who travel at the same time and focus on clinics.
The ten-day fellowship is led by the distinguished and experienced godfather and ICRS President Prof. Daniel A. Grande (Northwell Health), who mentors throughout the trip. The Fellowship program ends with attending the 18th ICRS World Congress in Boston/USA.
The ON Foundation will cover all costs for transportation and accommodation, as well as several dinners with the local hosts.

- Candidates must be fluent in English (the entire program is held in English).

ICRS Sachdev Translational Innovation Fellowship 2025 Apply until February 14

This fellowship provides early to mid-career translational scientists with cutting-edge knowledge, hands-on experience and career-altering connections in cartilage regeneration and joint preservation, supporting their continued growth and expertise in this vital area of orthopaedics.
The specific objectives are to:
- Enhance the skills of scientists in translational research by familiarizing them with cutting-edge techniques and perspectives.
- Promote collaboration between top international institutions and researchers to support the rapid translation of discoveries into clinical solutions.
- Foster long-term relationships contributing to global advances in joint preservation and regenerative medicine.
The week-long tour is led by ICRS President Prof. Daniel A. Grande, PhD (Northwell), who acts as a mentor throughout the fellowship.
The ICRS will cover all costs for transportation, accommodation, as well as several dinners with the local hosts.

The fellows will be selected by the ICRS Fellowship, Scholarship and Grants Committee, based on i) scientific merit, ii) potential to drive innovation and translation in the cartilage regeneration and joint preservation field and iii) prior commitment to the ICRS Society.

Conditions:
Within one month from completion of the fellowship, fellows will submit a short report detailing the outcomes of their visits, knowledge and connections gained, and potential impact on their translational research. These reports will also be made available to the wider community via ICRS digital outlets.
Fellows will be invited to present their fellowship experience at the ICRS World Congress to share their insights with the international community and to market this opportunity to future applicants. ICRS will waive the registration fee for this event provided that fellows contribute to the program through a short presentation on their Fellowship experience.
Eligibility criteria:
- Eligible applicants are international early to mid-career researchers (e.g., postdoctoral researchers, junior faculty, etc.) with a strong background in translational science focusing on cartilage regeneration and joint preservation.
- ICRS does not define geographic or age restrictions.
- Preference is given to committed ICRS members, but non-members can be selected, provided they become ICRS members at the start of the fellowship.
- Candidates must be fluent in English (the entire program will be held in English)
