Nadeen Chahine

Nadeen Chahine, PhD is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University in New York City. She has an interdisciplinary joint faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and is faculty in Vagelos Institute’s Biomedical Research Education (VIBRE) Program and the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative. She directs a multidisciplinary research lab focused on cartilage degeneration and regeneration in the spine and joints. She is co-PI of an ARPA-H funded project on ‘Novel Innovations for Tissue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis’, co-directs an NIH pre-doctoral T32 training program on ‘Interdisciplinary Musculoskeletal Training Program’ and is the Associate Director of the Carroll Laboratories for Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Chahine was the first woman to ever be promoted to full professor with tenure in Columbia Orthopedic Surgery’s 150-year long history. She is past chair of the Cell and Molecular Bioengineering Council (CMBE) of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), past chair of the Orthopedic Research Society (ORS) Spine Section, former member of the ORS Board of Directors, and was a standing member on the NIH’s Skeletal Biology and Skeletal Regeneration (SBSR) study section. Dr. Chahine has been the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, BMES CMBE Rising Star Award, ORS Adele Boskey Award, and is a fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers.
