Susan Chubinskaya

Susan Chubinskaya, PhD, is the Senior Vice President and Provost (interim) of the Academic Enterprise at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She is a tenured Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and holds the Peaches and Shrub Kempner Distinguished Professorship. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. As a researcher, she is an award- winning leader in orthopedic research. She held multiple leadership positions, including Boards of Directors in multiple professional societies. She served as the president of the Orthopedic Research Society (ORS) in 2020. Her research was continuously funded for three decades. She presented about 300 lectures at the international, national, and regional arenas, with many of them being keynote or invited. She has co-authored more than 140 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 12 book chapters, and almost 300 peer-reviewed abstracts. She trained and mentored more than 80 fellows, residents, undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and hundreds of faculty at her institutions and beyond.

In her Provost role, Susan oversees the entire academic enterprise of the UTMB including five schools, student affairs, faculty affairs and faculty professional and leadership development, interprofessional continued education, mentoring programs, faculty recruitment, retention, and engagement, health education/simulation center, institutional research and accreditation, wellness, and community engagement. She built multiple professional development and mentoring programs at Rush and UTMB with outcomes published in Academic Medicine and other relevant journals. She provides about 200/year in-person consultations and mentoring/coaching sessions.
