Michelle Delco
Michelle Delco received her DVM from Cornell University in 2002, then completed a residency in Equine Surgery at the University of California, Davis, and became a diplomate of the American College of Surgeons in 2007. She practiced equine surgery and sports medicine until returning to Cornell in 2012 to complete her PhD, investigating mitochondrial dysfunction as a link between cartilage injury and posttraumatic osteoarthritis. She received a NIH-NIAMS Clinical Scientist Career Development Award and is currently an Assistant Research Professor at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Delco also serves as a large animal surgeon at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals in Ithaca NY, and Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Elmont, NY. Her laboratory studies the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in diseases of orthopedic soft tissues, mitochondrial mechanobiology, and mitochondria-targeted therapies. Her group is also interested in mitochondrial function in regenerative medicine and developing new strategies to improve healing of orthopedic tissues after injury.
