Giuseppe Filardo

Prof. Giuseppe Filardo is an Executive Board member and Treasurer of ICRS.
During the last 20 years, he covered a wide range of roles within the ICRS society: from Chair of the Fellowship committee – awarded most active committee 2022-2023 – to member of the Communication committee, from ICRS-Sanofi Lars Peterson traveling fellow to ICRS Fellow Member to ICRS Godfather, from the participation in near 30 ICRS events to the co-organization of 7 events, where he contributed with his research groups in almost 200 presentations/posters, leading to several awards. He is the promoter of ICRS working groups on cartilage and joint preservation and of consensus initiatives in collaboration with other major international societies. He is also a member of the ESSKA Orthobiologic Initiative and ISAKOS Biologics Task Force, a member of the Editorial Boards of AJSM, KSSTA, JEO, Joints, and OJSM, and a reviewer for JISAKOS and JCJP journals.
He earned his Degree in Medicine and Surgery at Bologna University, Italy, with a specialization in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute (Bologna, Italy). He was a research fellow at Rush Cartilage Restoration Center in Chicago, USA, and obtained his PhD in “cartilage regenerative treatments” at Bologna University. He completed an Executive MBA at the Bologna Business School.
His research activities are currently performed at the Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, Switzerland, where he is also a Professor at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera Italiana.
Author of more than 500 publications; Scopus H Index: 76; Google Scholar: 93. About 20,000 citations Scopus, 30,000 Google Scholar. Author of the book “Orthobiologics: Injectable Therapies for the Musculoskeletal System,” ISAKOS-ICRS, 2022.
His main interests are regenerative medicine and new treatments for musculoskeletal tissues, in particular cartilage lesions and osteoarthritis. His main focus is currently the development of better research mechanisms, working on the “research architecture.”
