Kostas Economopoulos

Dr. Economopoulos is Associate Professor of Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic Arizona and team orthopedic surgeon for Arizona State University Athletics and head team physician for the Phoenix Rising FC. He is also an orthopedic consultant for the Seattle Mariners MLB organization and former team orthopedic surgeon for the Arizona Coyotes NHL team. After completing medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, he completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix followed by a sports fellowship at the University of Virginia and a second sports fellowship with concentration on hip arthroscopy in Melbourne, Australia. He specializes in complex reconstructions of the knee with a focus on ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair and transplant, cartilage repair and transplant along with lower alignment correction with osteotomies. His practice also includes hip arthroscopy with labral repair and reconstruction. His research focuses on ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair and transplantation, cartilage repair and hip arthroscopy. He also participates in basic science research working on a mouse model to study the molecular mechanism of quadriceps atrophy following ACL reconstruction. He has published extensively and has presented his work at national and international meetings. Dr. E also remains heavily involved in the orthopedic and sports medicine societies sitting on several committees.
