Lisa Fortier

Lisa A. Fortier is the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA) and The American Journal of Veterinary Research (AJVR) and Chief Publication Officer at the American Veterinary Medical association. She is also the James Law Professor of Surgery at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She received her DVM from Colorado State University and completed her PhD and surgical residency training at Cornell University. She is boarded with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and maintains equine orthopedic surgery practices at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and at the Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Elmont, New York. Dr. Fortier’s research career made novel contributions in translational research with a focus on prevention of post-traumatic osteoarthritis and the clinical application of orthobiologics such as stem cells, platelet rich plasma and bone marrow concentrate. Her laboratory group has published over 200 scientific manuscripts. She has received the Jaques Lemans Award from the International Cartilage Repair Society, the New Investigator Research Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Pfizer Research Award for Research Excellence from Cornell University, the SUNY Chancellors Award for Scholarship and Creative Activities, the Kappa Delta Award, the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians Faculty Achievement Award and is a member of the University of Kentucky Equine Research Hall of fame. Dr. Fortier has served as the Vice President of the International Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Society and was the first woman and veterinarian to serve as President of the International Cartilage Repair Society, and she presently serves on the HISA Racetrack Safety Committee.
