Myron Spector

Myron Spector, Ph.D., Professor of Orthopedic Surgery (Biomaterials) at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. has been engaged in biomaterials research for 50 years. He is Director of Tissue Engineering/Regenerative Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System, and he teaches 3 subjects at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he is a Senior Lecturer.
Most of his studies have been directed toward the development of biomaterials/medical devices for tissue engineering/regenerative medicine applications, to address musculoskeletal, dental, and neural tissue problems.
In current work, his team is demonstrating the benefits of novel injectable natural biopolymer (gelatin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid) gels for the treatment of cartilage defects in a goat model, and of lesions in central nervous system organs in rat models, including stroke and retinal disease.
