Stefan Nehrer
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Nehrer is an orthopaedic surgeon at the University Hospital Krems and Profes-sor of Tissue Engineering at the Center for Regenerative Medicine. Since 2011, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine and, since 2013, as Head of the Department of Health Sciences, Medicine and Research at the University for Continuing Education Krems.
He earned his MD in 1984 and PhD in 1999 from the Medical University of Vienna. From 1995 to 1996, he started research at Harvard Medical School on cell-based therapies and cartilage regenera-tion and pursued this career at the Center for Regenerative Medicine at the University for Continuing Education Krems expanding this field in several tissue engineering and ortho-biologic projects. Clinical-ly, his focus is on sports orthopedics and cartilage surgery.
Prof. Nehrer has published over 161 peer-reviewed articles and gives lectures nationally and interna-tionally. His expertise drives numerous research projects in regenerative medicine. He represents the Austrian Society of Orthopaedics (ÖGO) as UEMS and EFORT delegate for European affairs and has been an Honorary Fellow of the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society (ICRS) since 2011 and he earned the James Richardson award in 2023.
