Important Update on JCJP

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about an upcoming change to the JCJP Editorial Board. Over the past 5 years, the journal has experienced tremendous growth and expansion, and we expect this trend to continue. This is in large part due to you, the members, who continue to submit your research to JCJP, and for that, we are very grateful. We would like to thank JCJP’s second Editor-in-Chief, Rachel M. Frank, MD, on her efforts over the past 4 years, who has worked tirelessly to improve the visibility and quality of our Open Access journal, the Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation, the Official Journal of the ICRS. In her role as Editor-in-Chief, JCJP has evolved from a “start-up” journal to becoming the landmark journal for cartilage and joint preservation lead by many of you, with 15 issues and 180 articles accepted/published to date (Appendix A). In an effort to keep up with the volume of manuscripts and better align with the mission and vision of ICRS, we have been working with Dr. Frank to widen our scope and that will require a change from a single Editor-in-Chief to two Editors-in-Chief – one focused on clinical medicine/research, and one focused on basic science/translational research. Dr. Frank has done a wonderful job during her 4-year tenure and has helped to guide this transition to make JCJP even stronger. She will be moving on towards new and exciting tasks within the ICRS in the future but has asked to step down as Editor-in-Chief at this time.
Dr. Frank will be succeeded in the role of Editor-in-Chief by Drs. Lucienne Vonk and Elizaveta Kon, who will become JCJP’s first ever Co-Editors-in-Chief. Dr. Lucienne Vonk, PhD, is the Chief Scientific Officer at Xintela AB, has been an ICRS member since 2012, is widely published (61 peer-reviewed articles to date), and is the current Senior Associate Editor for JCJP. Dr. Elizaveta Kon, MD, is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Humanitas University, currently the past president of ICRS (2023-2025) and SIAGASCOT, has been an ICRS member since 2001, and is widely published (311 peer-reviewed articles to date). Drs. Vonk and Kon’s vision for JCJP is to expand upon the incredible foundation established by both Dr. Fortier (JCJP’s first Editor-in-Chief) and Dr. Frank and help build the journal’s reputation as a leading publication in joint preservation and cartilage regeneration. Given the open access nature of the journal, the ability for clinicians, researchers, and students to publish in a timely fashion in a peer-reviewed setting is seemingly unlimited. We anticipate that JCJP will continue to have a global impact in the near term. The mission of JCJP aligns perfectly with the mission of ICRS – to advance science and education for the prevention and treatment of cartilage disease worldwide.” Dr. Frank will remain in an Emeritus Editor-in-Chief role to help with the transition and ensure success of the journal.
Please join the Executive Board in welcoming both Drs. Vonk and Kon to their new roles, and please support them and the ICRS by submitting your work at https://www.editorialmanager.com/jcjp/default.aspx, reviewing for the journal, and acting as an advocate for JCJP in your network of colleagues.
